Twitter Chats You Need to Join

Posted 12/09/2016 by Dani in Networking / 13 Comments

Twitter chats are awesome. There’s a few other things you need to know about them but being awesome is the key point to take away from this. Whether you’re new to Twitter or you’ve just never fancied a Twitter chat, now’s the time to get involved.

I love getting involved in Twitter chats. I love networking with other bloggers and the general chat is always really good. It’s also a great way to make new friends.

Twitter Chats

What is a Twitter Chat?

A Twitter chat is basically a conversation, in public, between Tweeters (is that a word?!) that revolves around a single, unique hashtag. The hashtag lets everyone follow and participate in the discussion. It’s that easy.

Each Twitter chat will be hosted by someone who will usually ask questions about a topic that connects the people involved. For example #fblchat is for fashion, beauty and lifestyle bloggers and all the questions will be linked to a common topic. People will start answering the questions directly but the questions will also spark conversations between people too.

It’s a great way to meet new bloggers, pick up new tips and just have a little chat.

Why Are They so Awesome?

Twitter chats are an amazing way to connect with other bloggers. Quite often you’ll pick up some useful hints and tips that will help you with your blog. But seriously, the most important thing you can take away from a Twitter chat is friends. Build connections and relationships with bloggers like you.

Twitter is an amazing marketing tool and your Tweets will reach a much wider audience if other people have your back. If you have Twitter friends who will like and re-Tweet you, each post you publish will reach so many more people.

Twitter chats will introduce you to other like-minded people who you can then follow on Twitter so your feed will then be full of useful and interesting Tweets and blog posts – bonus!

How to Take Part in a Twitter Chat

Firstly, forget everything else. Twitter chats move quickly and you’ll want to keep up so I’d recommend not trying to do anything else at the same time.

Open Twitter at the time of the chat (see the schedule below) and search for the relevant hashtag. Selecting “Live” is a good way to follow the chat and related Tweets. Join in the conversation by including the hashtag in your Tweets.

Personally, I like to take part in Twitter chats on Hootsuite so that I can have several streams open – I usually have one for the relevant hashtag, one for mentions and one for follows. That way I can keep track of all the different things going on.

The best way to get something out of a Twitter chat is to dive in head first. Get involved, reply to other people, retweet noteworthy tweets and find new people to follow. Twitter chats usually end with a link share so you can promote your blog and select some other cool blogs to follow too.
